Car key replacement is not as simple as it used to be. Today’s automotive keys, key fobs, and remotes contain sophisticated security features and control key functions of the vehicle. Some keys are part of or built directly into the remote control, making remote replacement very expensive if you go to the dealer.
Cars today come in one of the following types of keys.
A basic key with security chip that starts the car and locks and unlocks the door through the key cylinder on the door.
An ignition key plus the remote to lock and unlock the doors.
A key fob with remote locking/unlocking a push button start.
